¿Porque este tema para versionar, como lo descubriste o que te gusta del original Sedi Laka?
Este tema lo descubrí indagando por el Youtube. Siguiendo algun hilo encuentro alguna canción bonita para escuchar y que me emociona y voy investigando sobre si hay más de una versión, y gozo haciendo mi propria versión. He versionado este tema porque me gusta mucho la música coral de África del Sur, y me emociona el góspel, el soul, la música negra en general. Saqué mi visión de Sedi Laka de un video de unos chavales cantando a muchas voces y a dos tonos, busqué la letra en internet y puse mi corazón para este tema tan hermoso.
Te gustan mucho la cultura y la música africana…
Me encanta su manera de entender la música. Tienen un don y son los reyes del ritmo. Aunque en todos los continentes haya mucho ritmo, los africanos y las africanas tienen una cierta magia tropical que me atrae, su música me emociona sobremanera, desde el África de Costa de Marfil, Congo, Nigeria, con su afro beat, o música más tradicional
como el Sub Sáhara. Es un continente muy grande, lo que más me gusta es del centro oeste y el sur de Á frica, los cantos Zulúes, ya hice una versión de Ukuthula, un tema popular de góspel Zulú, y de otro muy popular: Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Me.
Te gustaría colaborar con artistas africanos, u otros artistas de toda forma…
Me gustaría colaborar con artistas africanos claro está, me encantaría… y con artistas que no fueran africanos también. De hecho ya hago colaboraciones con otros músicos. Colaboré con una cantante camerunesa, Sorelle Carina Messine, que canta muy bien y tienen una energía fantástica. El tema se titula The Corner of the Palm Groove. Un tema un poco estilo champeta pero a nuestra manera. Los artistas afros de todo el globo tienen una musicalidad excepcional, unas grandes ideas melódicas, y conceptos muy coloridos. Es imposible resistirse a su música.
¿En qué estás trabajando o que hay en tu futuro musical?
Con el Coconut Funky Quintet, que es la banda que me acompaña en vivo y en algunos discos, estamos trabajando en un sencillo que se titula Black Mama: A song for Assata Shakur. Es un homenaje poético en clave funk para una revolucionaria negra de U.S.A., que aún está viva. Tengo también un disquito de pop que estoy grabando, tocando yo todos los intrumentos y cantando, y un single dedicado a una artista africana que vive por aqui. Luego pienso hacer otro disco de funk, y muchos más discos… la verdad es que me encanta tocar y grabar! La música es infinita y llena de colores y espero que mi arte pueda llegar hasta todas las personas del planeta.

The love for African culture and music is at the heart of the mythical J. H. Coconut new single, a powerful combination of them with the poetry of the original Zulu lyrics.
Why this theme to version, how did you discover it or what do you like about the original Sedi Laka?
I discovered this topic by digging YouTube. Following some thread I find some beautiful song to listen to and that excites me and I am investigating if there is more than one version, and I enjoy making my own version. I’ve covered this song because I really like choral music from South Africa, and I’m excited about gospel, soul, black music in general. I took out my vision of Sedi Laka from a video of some kids singing to many voices and two tones, I searched for the lyrics on the internet and put my heart into this beautiful song.
You like African culture and music very much…
I love their way of understanding music. They have a gift and they are the kings of rhythm. Although there is a lot of rhythm in all continents, Africans have a certain tropical magic that attracts me, their music thrills me greatly, from the Ivory Coast of Africa, Congo, Nigeria, with its afro beat, or more traditional music like in the Sub Sahara. It is a very large continent, and what I like the most is the central west and the south of Africa, the Zulúes songs. I already made a version of Ukuthula, a popular theme of gospel Zulu, and another very popular one: Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Me.

I would like to collaborate with African artists of course, I would love it!… and with artists who were not African as well. In fact I already collaborate with other musicians. I collaborated with a Cameroonian singer, Sorelle Carina Messine, who sings very well and has a fantastic energy. The song is titled The Corner of the Palm Groove. A theme a bit champeta style but in our own way. Afro artists from all over the globe have exceptional musicality, great melodic ideas, and very colorful concepts. It is impossible to resist their music.
What are you working on or what is in your musical future?
With the Coconut Funky Quintet, which is the band that accompanies me live and on some albums, we are working on a single that is called Black Mama: A song for Assata Shakur. It is a poetic homage in funk style for a black revolutionary woman, who is still alive. I also have a pop record that I am recording, playing all the instruments and singing, and a single dedicated to an African artist who lives around here. Then I plan to make another funk record, and many more albums… truth is that I love playing and recording! The music is endless and full of colors and I hope that my art can reach all the people of the planet.
